Honey Gourami

Trichogaster chuna
Freshwater 🎓 Beginner

The honey gourami is often overshadowed by its more dramatic relatives, but it is arguably the best small labyrinth fish for community tanks, peaceful, hardy, and beautiful. Females are a subtle silver-yellow; males in breeding condition transform to a stunning deep orange with a blue-black throat patch. ⚠️ They are sold at pet stores in a pale, stressed-out form that looks nothing like their true coloration, give them time and good conditions to reveal their beauty. They are shy; provide floating plants and dim lighting.
